Website Resources Fast Facts, Last Updated:09/07/2010 Many existing radio and television broadcasters have providedInternet 'feeds' of their live audio and video streams (forexample, the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk)). Theyhave been joined by a range of pure Internet 'broadcasters' whonever had on-air licences. This means that an Internet-connecteddevice, such as a computer or something more specific, can be usedto access on-line media in much the same way as was previouslypossible only with a TV or radio receiver. The range of material ismuch wider, from pornography to highly specialised technicalweb-casts. The simplest equipment can allow anybody, with littlecensorship or licencing control, to broadcast on a worldwide basis.Time-shift viewing or listening is not a problem as the BBC haveshown with their Preview, Classic Clips and Listen Againfeatures. |
